South Africa’s history of brandy is almost as old as the first Dutch settlement at the Cape. The word brandy is derived from the Dutch brandewijn, literally meaning “burnt” or distilled wines. Today brandy connoisseurs throughout the world agree that some of the finest brandies emanate from South Africa.

Visit the KVW brandy cellars- the biggest of its kind in the
world. Some 120 copper pot stills are found under one roof. -
Brandy tasting at Backsberg, These brandies are made by using wine pressed exclusively from Chenin Blanc grapes, and distilled in a state-of-the-art still imported from the Cognac region in France.

Cellar tour and tasting at Van Ryn Brandy Distillery. See the burnished copper potstills and watch skilled craftsmen at work at the one distillery in the country with an on-site cooperage.
