Constantia Tour
Constantia is the birthplace of the South African wine industry dating back to 1685. As you drive through the beautiful valley it is no wonder Simon van der Stel chose this prime location for his wine estate, Constantia. Constantia is the most historic of the wine growing areas and the closest to Cape Town.
- Wine tasting and cellar tour at Groot Constantia, Groot Constantia has been producing wine for more than three centuries. Producing one of the world's most famous wines which was coveted across the globe and those who were fortunate enough to taste it soon refused to settle for anything less.
- Wine tasting at Klein Constantia, as part of the original vineyard that in the 18th century produced "Constantia", prized throughout Europe by the leaders and aristocracy of the time, Klein Constantia has helped to reclaim its former glory by initiating the revival of this famous sweet wine.
- Wine tasting at Buitenverwachting, This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa.
- Wine tasting at Constantia Uitsig, Constantia Uitsig, known until 1940 as Constantia View. All Constantia Uitsig white wines are screw capped, whilst the red is bottled in natural cork. Constantia Uitsig was one of South Africa’s screw cap closure pioneers, implementing the select use of screw cap as early as 2003.
- Wine tasting at Steenberg, 'Mountain of Stone', has a romantic ring, but the original name was even more beautiful, it was called 'Swaaneweide' - The Feeding Place of Swans.
